So nice to meet you!
My name is Riley Gervais, and I have been an elementary school teacher for eight years. I have taught second, third, fourth, and fifth grades in both public and private school settings. I have a genuine passion for meeting each of my students where they are, identifying the ways in which they learn best, and creating learning paths that will help them be successful in their schooling journeys! I strive for each student I work with to feel that learning is a journey of hard work, dedication, mistakes, growth, and of course, joy!

I would like to take this opportunity to share the wonderful experience I had working with Riley Gervais as her room mom in my daughter’s 5th grade class. I had been room mom before and worked closely with numerous teachers through volunteering in classrooms and PTA, two times as President. My time working with Mrs. Gervais was exceptional. She communicated not only with room moms but all class parents regularly. I felt like I was truly looped in on what the class was learning and what my daughter was expected to complete for homework. I had the privilege of eavesdropping on some of the lessons during activities and celebrations that required parent helpers. Her level of patience and attentiveness when children raised their hands to ask questions was comforting to observe, as my other child had the unfortunate experience of being too scared to ask questions with a different teacher. She instilled the self confidence in the children that they could be assured their questions mattered. That is very important. As room mom I was also tasked with fielding questions or concerns from other parents about our volunteer activities. Mrs. Gervais was well liked among the parent community. I can’t think of a more qualified, kind, and patient person to utilize in any teaching capacity than Mrs. Gervais.

Former 5th Grade Parent
As a former student of Mrs. Gervais in 5th grade, she is still to this date my favorite teacher. This is not only because of her incredibly fun and unique teaching style, but also because she was/is actually a good teacher. She knows what she is doing when it comes down to teaching all of the different subjects. Mrs. Gervais is one of the big reasons that I was so prepared for middle school. She understands what the kids need, even if they are mentally challenged and/or have ADHD like myself. It was clear to me even as a child that school is enjoyable only if the teacher allows it to be. And one thing that I have never ever second guessed even while I am currently in high school as a sophomore, is I not only learned all of the subjects curriculum's, I also learned incredibly valuable learning skills/strategies that I still use to this day. As an example, one of these skills that I learned from Mrs. Gervais is to always remember three of the four things in a lesson and the rest find its way back to you. This helps me so much because with ADHD, it is extremely hard to focus and stay present with what is being taught. So knowing that I do not have to stay focused for a whole lesson and only most of it, reduces my anxiety and stress levels a lot.
